dac - glaze testing
19th-Oct-2006 10:01 pm
And after all the testing i'd done, i managed to get 2 tiles with any sort of crystals to form. *sigh* 70 tests and only 2 of them worked! that's like barely 3%. god i suck at this. anyway to our right we have a marvels display, note the milky halo around the crystals. hurrah.
this is the result of 70 test glazes. ian currie eat your heart out. the top right corner of each batch of 35 is number 1. so you can count where number 26 is..  (second row from the bottom, right hand side)
even got them to form on the side.
tile 31 worked _a little_ also, you can see them beginning to form (although not nearly as well).

I intend to test these 2 glazes more, with a variety of oxides next. should be exciting.

I guess i should also mention that they are fritt 3110/zinc oxide based glaze +5% titanium oxide.

i have the exact formulae somewhere. but not on me now...

I have absolutely NO idea what the details of this project are, as I have NO pottery experience in the least.

It is; however, entirely fascinating. And the crystals on the side of 26 are lovely.

not really part of an assignment, i am trying to get crystal glazes though. i though ti would embark on a scientific method... it's been a CRAPLOAD of effort, to get 2 tiles.

i'm pretty happy however, as atleast i got something, better than naught!

Indeed...and there is a certain sick pleasure in just DOING for nothing...Like watching an avid crocheter mess up, and pull one string and unravel the whole thing.

So you at least got two tiles, and some experience.
