The International Network of Spies reports:
pulled one cane, with a vague leaf shape in the centre. broke them into 10cm lengths, bundled them together in 4s (noting the pattern), pulled them skinny. cut the cane into slices. (in some drilled a hole, there was an air bubble in many) polished them - started 80grit, went 240, 440,800, cork. both sides. - this took ages and wore my fingernails down :(

murinni is a pain in the arse, but given the effort can yeild good results.

I assume all the "bundled them together" bit was done on the torch and not fused or anything?

What do you find is the best way to cut murinni? I've been attempting to cut it with the wire-cutter part of my pliers, but I can only cut VERY SKINNY murinni, anything more than about 1/2 cm diameter and I can't generate enough force. They also don't break evenly and sometimes pieces just shatter on me.

BTT - put 4 canes (made them square, so they'd bundle well ;) put a bit of wire around them, rested them end up in a kiln. brought the kiln up to 500c. picked them up on the end of pipe. cut wire off. got hot (unevenly). attached another pipe, handed to assistant up ladder, pulled down (poorly). there's flames and half an hour there, it'll be so more interesting as an lj post.

CM - well... i use the highspeeddiamondsaw *swoon*. it's awesome - i can cut from 3mm strips up... *sigh* i'm getting lazy with my foto doc again aren't i...
easter is massive inbound and i plan nothing till next week.but.i'll use you to motivate...[standby]

Also use there's Brute Force (another personal fav) and hit it with good square bits of steel... uni has this hitty-swingy-thing. it's cool ;)

kareina told me you keep bees-so do I- (and I see you also make glass--another art I'm interested in) and I was wondering if it would be OK to friend you? I'm Duchess Cyneswith from the West Kingdom. I can't recall if we've met before (perhaps last time I came down for Rowany?--I was the US head of Portia & Uther's court at the time). I think I've also heard my friend Judith mention your name. Anyway, I thought it might be fun to follow your posts on bee and non-bee related topics.

Hey, bottle blowing thing: Picked up some blown 19th C black/dark green spirits bottles for quaffing out of when I'm doing Colonial/Napoleonic re-enactment, and poking around the net led me to this document: http://www.sha.org/bottle/pdffiles/moldseams.pdf

Thought you may find it interesting.
