My crap
glassblowing. the dull bits
7th-Sep-2008 04:09 pm

today let's discuss the less flashy and exciting parts of a glassworkers life. to the left you see the hour of cane i pulled. each one lovingly hand crafted, styled to a nordic design, and reeks bespoke minimalism. yeah. i've got the flu. sorry

canes hand pulled. cut to 50cm lengths (roughly ;) fused at 750°c. annealed.

then i diamond sawed them up, laid them on a steel plate, heated bejusus out of them, pushed it into a rectangle, heated that up, picked it up on a collar, and here to the right, i'm fumbling putting the two edges of the rectangle together. it's hot at that range.

check out the funky patterning on the wonky cylinder tho. tres cool. go me.
hmm this is an interesting pic. how'd that slip in...

then once the sides joined up, i rolled it back and forth on the steel table, the marver. it goes like this ->

from above i, crimped the end in, sealed it over, blew it out, jacklined, made the walls straight, flattened the bum, and awaiting a punti (pontil) to come. the it gets sophi'd, opened, and put away.

exciting eh?
